Sea Scamp Maintenance

Maintenance of the Boat

Sea Scamp
requires more maintenance than a modern plastic boat. As far as possible, maintenance is carried out by members during the winter refit. This not only keeps sailing fees at a reasonable level, but is a means by which members learn more about their boat, and acquire maintenance skills. Refit days are also social occasions, providing an opportunity to reminisce about the last season's sailing or to plan ahead.

Those who undertake refit work earn a refit allowance which is credited against each day's sailing fees the following season.

Apart from routine maintenance, the club has undertaken substantial reconstruction work to Sea Scamp to restore her to her original state. In recent years, the boat has been completely re-decked, the lower planking has been renewed, and floors, keelbolts and throatbolts replaced. A new auxiliary engine was installed in 2001, and a new wooden boom supplied in 2002. We fitted a feathered prop in 2005 and rebuilt the cockpit in 2009.
